Los Angeles: First Date Ideas

Los Angeles - Reasonably Priced First Date Places

Of course there are fan favorites like Shutters in Santa Monica and the Bar at Hotel Chateau Marmont,   but we wanted to give you some down-to-earth options for first date places in Los Angeles.

Urth Caffé (http://www.urthcaffe.com/): There are four locations of this café for which includes outside seating to enjoy the California weather. Sip delicious coffee and tea while you get to know your date. They also offer sandwiches and salads. I prefer the Santa Monica location because you can continue your date on the beach if you’re further interested in getting to know your new mate.

Hama Sushi: (http://www.hamasushi.com/) This sushi restaurant is only located in Venice. It offers a hip and funky sushi style. Order your sake cold and they serve it to an a unique way. They offer sushi roll specially made and designed by their chefs. I would recommend reservations on the weekend.

Liquid Kitty: (http://www.thekitty.com/) This bar is off the beaten path and known by the locals as a small and dark lounge bar. It is located in West Los Angeles off of Pico Blvd. If you want an intimate place where you don’t want to be noticed by others and get a couple of drinks, then this is the place. The bartenders are very friendly.

Red Rock (http://www.redrocksunset.com/) This restaurant/bar is located in West Hollywood off of the famous Sunset Trip. I love this bar around sunset. Since they have front windows that open and you can watch the traffic sailing by. They have dart boards in the back to see how your date deals with competition. This bar turns into a local hot spot and there are occasional celebrity sightings on Fridays and Saturdays. A DJ turns music upstairs if you want to get your jiggy on too.

The Standard (http://www.standardhotels.com/los-angeles/restaurants-bars/) This hotel / bar is located in downtown L.A. It is a little on the pricey side for drinks, but we couldn't resist adding it to the list. We have a definite soft spot for roof top bars. The Roof encompasses a heated swimming pool, red AstroTurf deck, dance floor, bar, outdoor fireplace, vibrating waterbed pods and a grassy knoll with sculptured topiary. Nightly DJs, excellent food and special events have established the Rooftop Bar as one of the most coveted nightlife destinations in Los Angeles

Moonshadows in Malibu (http://www.moonshadowsmalibu.com/new/): Known for the views of the ocean, romance is sure to bloom at this location. With the umbrella-dotted patio cantilevered over the cliff, diners feel surrounded by water and sky. The bar area is intimate, with tables for two, and the main dining room is trendy, but inviting. Dinner standouts include New England quahog clam cowder BBQ spot prawns pear salad with organic greens candied nuts and maytag bue cheese. The late night menu includes twice cooked pork with five spice glaze and asian slaw and flash fried calamari with chipotle-lime mayonnaise. This was a favorite hangout for surfers in the 70's, but now it touts a more upscale crowd, including Pepperdine graduate students.
